About Janice Hayes
—and I’ve spent my life in the ring, helping dogs look their best and helping handlers feel like they belong. I started showing dogs when I was just 9 years old. While other kids played sports, I was in the ring learning how to stack, move, and handle like the professionals I admired.
Decades later, I’ve competed at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show nearly 30 times and had the incredible honor of standing in the Best in Show ring three times—bringing home the big ribbon in 2023 with a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen named Buddy Holly. But more than the ribbons and wins, what I’m most proud of is helping other handlers learn the skills that took me years to master.
People ask me all the time: “How do you make it look so easy?” And the truth is, it’s not always easy. It’s practice, intention, and a whole lot of patience. I created these Handling Courses because I wanted to offer the kind of guidance I wish I had when I was learning—practical, approachable, and rooted in experience.
